gift of courage
awakening in fear
not of the test itself
but of its implications
awakening to find
a joyous card from my daughter
professing love i know to be
her daily gift to me
despite the years of pain
she has endured
i will borrow
a bit of her courage and take
the test and its results
as they are
friends in blue
chuckles at puns
nods at sharing life incidents
warm hugs
smiles of understanding
friends gathered to unwind
together at lunch
and solving a jigsaw puzzle
as they sit looking out
over the pacific
(un)touched
An original poem by MaryJane Nordgren
untouched, we know not we are a separate being
touched, we learn our parts and limitations
untouched, we feel no attachment to any other
touched, we learn empathy and understanding
untouched, we have no investment in compassion
theron
An original poem by MaryJane Nordgren about understandin cultures
i asked for help understanding
from a man raised in a different
culture, a worldview i do not grasp
for my characters are men
of that tradition and i want them
to be true to what they believe
not caricatures from my prejudice
my friend answered with a book
of his own with depth of finding
self in the tradition of battle
so foreign to his own sense of being
interpreter
gentle soul brings to us the fruit of her watching
to honor Daphne Clifton, poet
daphne watches nature
captures chickadees and titmice
in their daily, eventful little lives
with gentle words of compassion
and understanding that even too busy
humans can comprehend
empty nest echoes
i hear the laughter
atop of utility pole is the empty osprey
nest of rugged, twisted branches
my offspring, too, have flown on to their own lives
but i have kept my home so filled
with the echoes of their laughter, questions and insights
a place of growth and deepening understanding
love and acceptance
