capacity sanctuary
a sanctuary filled to capacity
to celebrate the life and laughter
of a man given to caring
eases his widow’s pain of loss
when all we can do to truly tell her
that their lives have touched us
is to be there in his honor
helping heal
comment from Eileen gives author hope
so young to contend
with a disease that is robbing
her of sight
and now beloved father’s fight
with cancer lost
holidays have only so much magic
that moments beside Pacific’s turbulent surf enhance
but nothing yet
can heal the wounds
painted ladies
comment from Eileen gives author hope
pedicures with painted toes
and massage of aching
calves and arches
giggling between chairs
of mom and two daughters
sharing grief with delight
reminding each other of the joy
that lives even amid the sorrow
warm and accept
friends do so much
to warm the soul
and ease the emptiness
simply by being there
and accepting where we are
i’m on my feet
i’m on my feet
even answering questions
and working on the play
i am setting up
but i’m empty
and no judge
of the rationality
in what i am doing
slaughter of innocents
