fuzzied 3rd Hood
my third morning here in the Gardens
but, in rain and heavy skies,
my first sunrise and it has the glory
of a celebratory chapter in my waning life
brilliant folds of white and gold among
the purple, and, above, intense indigo
with Mt. Hood jagged beside the tallest
pine tree, except its north face fuzzied
by clouds severed as they drifted south
water droplet communities disunited
by granite
spell giving way
more yellow in this morning’s sky
pre-dawn indigo had a tinge of green
sunrise corals washed-out, muted
by hovering mist hinting with chill
that the freakish spell of unseasonable
warmth will again give way to March
to pinch too-early rhododendrons buds
blue promise
“Poetic in every way. Whatever you witness, experience or feel translates seamlessly into beautiful poetry. Thank you for sharing your vision of life so eloquently.” SA
blue promise
of the twisting earth
as it gives rise to the sun
and the light of day
first of the year sunrise
An original poem by MaryJane Nordgren
pale orange and muted gold
streak and tinge aqua morning
as purple-blue storm clouds
loom over eastern hills
and silhouetted Mt. Hood
glitter that is gold
sudden, brilliant heralds
only mount hood ghost-like on my horizon this morning
chill, pallid fog has muted the blue of portland’s west hills and pale
more distant cascade range
until flakes of burnished gold and snippets of vivid pink spurtle
like pinprick explosions of color to vouch for the coming of day
gray awaiting sunrise in october
gray quieter in autumn
gray haze between the hills
spread out and lingering
as though reluctant to rise
until touched by dawn’s warmth
laugh of the morning
poem about an unusual sunrise
outlandish smudge of dawn
like blackened orange
smeared at the distant horizon
more threatening than promising
the imminence of a new day
mjNordgren 9/26/2022 N
layered sunrise
thunderous blue cloudbank wedged upward by pink-purples
a tier of magenta and another of orange-gold
each layer succeeded by brighter rose-golds infused
with incipient sunlight,startling with promise
attention, please
An original poem by MaryJane Nordgren
windchimes tinkle in a gentle stirring of air
at the edge of the pine forest holding its breath to adore
the brightening golden intensity of sunrise
red sky in the morning
An original poem by MaryJane Nordgren
smoky red sky to the northeast
as though the mighty Columbia were hosting wildfires
but it is only – i hope – dawn
we’ve had fire near often enough in the past few years
to be wary of more and compassionate
towards all who suffer terror and loss and fire danger
rose-gold promise
el Graco purples seep to rose gold dawn
streaked blue-purples
el Greco dramatic sky
gentleness hinted
by dawn’s warm rose

sky change
An original poem by MaryJane Nordgren about dawn after days of clouds
gray nights without stars
layered gray mornings
but today’s dawn
brilliant orange and gold
rising sun heralded
by trumpets of color
