somber to sparkle
flat, somber cloud field settled
over the upper valley drizzling rain
onto our evergreens and meadow
early this morning
finally, the sun broke through gray
to sparkle small drops clinging
to tallish grass
not warming the chill but lending
hope for joy to spread into the day
watercolor storm sky
a watercolor storm sky
of billowing clouds of grays
agonized purple and yellow
tortured by erupting orange
from angry, mottled blues
edging toward precipitating
their slivers of ice and shafts
of slashing rain when placating
winds shift their proximity
allowing sunshine to mediate
the argument to tete-a tetes of spring
valley cumulus
An original poem by MaryJane Nordgren
clouds trapped between the hills
create fog in the valleys
but whisper peace to those
who look over from above
but fear to tread
clouds have their own ways
An original poem by MaryJane Nordgren
individual clouds have their own ways
some, misty and delicate, float; some puff up as though
with laughter and good will
some, blushing blue, sprinkle rain; some pound the earth with deluge
a few gather discontented, angry friends and fellow haters
to dance themselves into spinning frenzy
creating pain and havoc
mostly on those who had nothing to do with whatever triggered
that cloud’s dismay
showoff storm
An original poem by MaryJane Nordgren at the Pacific coast
showoff storm
watercolor sky
and seascape
changing in the hail
wind gusts causing gulls
to land like drunken sailors
and ruffling tail and wing
feathers as they huddle
on the beach
sudden torrents of rain
beating, roiling sand
beneath the surface
to muddy gold-brown
churning the water
into foam white and gray-green
purple-blue in the shadows
of black-purple-gray clouds
