white world today
white world today
with icing of snow
and marshmallow fog
only foraging birds have color
share the seed
An original poem by MaryJane Nordgren
seed set out to feed scrub jays
juncos, Steller’s jays, sparrows
California quail, finches
when i’m not looking
is devoured by mama raccoon and kits
clue of absence
original poem by mjNordgren
haiku
how long to notice
absence of sound: crickets still
birds fearful, silent
putting on airs
watching my 4th of July flag celebrate in the wind
air galivants, twisting, spiraling
flipping directions in all curved corners
of a sphere we cannot see
except as it pushes playfully
or with malice against limbs
furling, flaming, flaunting flags
causing whispered murmurings in pines
whipping dust up into devils
dropping in gray-purple funnels
as tornados or gleefully lifting birds
on unseen highway thermals
air is an active creature we humans
pretend is still until it blows us over
